Thanks for reading the 3rd part of our SEO tri-fecta: "The Future of SEO" (Search Engine Optimization).

So where do we see the future of organic Internet searches going?

Businesses have realized that old media is almost dead and consumers are flocking to the internet to research company offerings.  Everything is now "Googled" instead of looked up in the Yellow Pages.

There is both good and bad news that comes along with that information.  We will start with the bad news.

Since businesses now know that the Internet is crucial to their survival, many have enlisted SEO companies to assist them in gaining high rankings organically.  While this is great for searchers looking to obtain the most relevant results, it could also mean that the small players will be unable to gain high rankings in the near future due to the competitiveness of search engine results.

This will translate into companies looking to target longer phrases and do Pay-Per-Click advertising for the more competitive keywords.

The good news is that search engine optimization will always be around.  The search engines have users because of relevant search results.  If Google were to get greedy and become a mostly paid ad company than another search engine would come along and take its place.  This probably won't happen for five to ten years though (if at all).

In the near future you can expect to see much more search relevancy placed on social media content.  The search engines know that this information is important to users and added weight has already been placed on user-generated content in search engine results.  Proof of this can be seen in Google's expanded search results.  Click on "Latest" under "More Options" and you will see Twitter and Facebook updates streaming live to the search engines!
